The Syndicat des Biologistes (SDB)is the principal professional association for directors of French medical biology laboratories, gathering more than half of all the laboratories in France.

The SDB seeks:

• to defend the quality medical biology practitioner, in the face of a potential drift toward industrialism
  
• to assess and improve continuously the quality of all the laboratories through Bio qualité;
  
• to promote the in-service education and training of medical biologists, provided through Bioforma
  
• to defend the code of ethics and standards of professional conduct
  
• to pursue the long term interests of the profession and not corporatism and demagogy;
  
• to enter into dialogue with the authorities and health insurance funds through a conventional policy
  
• to show constant concern for the equal access to healthcare for all, taking current social issues largely into account
  
• to improve the work conditions and pay of colleagues and laboratory employees.

The Journées Internationales de Biologie, were known as the Journées de l’Association des Pharmaciens Directeurs de Laboratoires d’Analyses Médicales at the time they were created. Under the impetus of the SDB, they have become a benchmark exhibition and conference devoted to medical biology in France. The event is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year.

The Journées Internationales de Biologie were known as the Journées de l’Association des Pharmaciens Directeurs de Laboratoires d’Analyses Médicales at the time they were created. Under the impetus of the SDB, they have become a benchmark exhibition and conference devoted to medical biology in France. The event is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year.

The Journées Internationales de Biologie unites all the key players in medical biology throughout France and Europe (independent medical biologists, hospital biologists, manufacturers, professional associations, research workers, technicians…) and makes it possible to follow the technological, scientific and organisational development of the profession year after year.

In addition to the high-level scientific conferences, the Syndicat des Biologistes each year offers a round-table talk on Saturday morning. The discussion covers the news and major trends of the profession.
