Lariboisière Hospital Biology Meeting

logo JBL The scientific days known as Journées Biologiques de Lariboisière (JBL) have been created by a friendly association among former hospital laboratory interns from the Hôpital Lariboisière in Paris.
Their internship completed, some of them left the hospital to practice their professional life, others in the private sector and engaged themselves in the management of the main professional association of clinical biologists, while others carried on their practice at Lariboisière hospital
.

In 1960, the former organisers of these conferences promoted the event as a system of continued professional training, aimed at private and hospital biologists. Plenary conferences organised at Lariboisière Hospital on a annual Sunday, were followed by practical demonstrations organised in the biochemistry laboratory of Lariboisière Hospital.

Here are just a few of the topics covered over the past 50 years by speakers coming from the most diverse backgrounds, reflecting the remarkable progress of biology :
• Assay of blood urea (1961 : F. Odienne, M. Koch, Hôpital Lariboisière, Paris)
• Blood and medullary reactions in non-leukemic malignant affections (1964 : M. Piette, Hôpital Pitié, Paris)
• Biological exploration in Hepatology (1970 : M. Cachin, Hôpital Cochin, Paris)
• Iron, Haemoglobin and Anaemia (1977, J. Bernard, Hôpital St Louis, Paris)
• Renal failure (1979, J. Hamburger, Hôpital Necker, Paris)
• Immune system affections (1985, JF Bach, Hôpital Necker, Paris)
• mycoses (1989, J. Savel, Hôpital C. Bernard, Paris)
• Gene analysis methods (1990, M. Vidaud, Faculté de Pharmacie, Paris)
• AIDS: biological monitoring of the seropositive condition (1995, W. Rozenbaum, Hôpital Rothschild, Paris)
• The transmissible agent in Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSE) (1997, D. Dormont, CEA, Fontenay aux Roses)
• Use of DNA-microarrays for Diagnostics (2000, D. Bellet, Institut G. Roussy, Villejuif)
• Hepcidin, an hormone involved in iron homeostasis: discovery, role and future in Biology (2004, A. Kahn, Institut Cochin, Paris), …

On their 51st edition, the JBL will propose this year a daily session all about mandatory accreditation, as part of the current French reform of medical biology:

- Tuesday, November 8th, 2011 in the morning: a plenary morning session will deal with the computarised management of an accredited laboratory; followed by

- the afternoon, on the same day, of a practical study cases session dealing with the contracts and their reviewing.
This session will proceed anonymously through a voting system to foster educational interactivity between speakers and participants to the session.
